Former U.S President Launches Social Media App after being banned by top social media platforms

Former US president; Donald J Trump has announced plan to launch his own social media platform called Truth Social which he says will stand up to giant platforms such as Facebook and Twitter.

The move comes after the former president was banned from Twitter, Facebook and YouTube after the Jan. 6 riot where his supporters stormed the Capitol.

Twitter placed a permanent on his account, Facebook said the earliest he could come back to the platform was 2023 and YouTube said his ban would be lifted after the “risk of violence decreased.

Trump has not also been active on his official Instagram page in 41 weeks, where he has over 23 million followers.

After being banned by some of today’s biggest social media platforms, former US President Donald Trump decided to take matters into his own hands and create Truth Social.

Reuters news agency reports that TRUTH Social will be created through a new company formed by a merger of the Trump Media and Technology Group, TMTG, and a special acquisition company (SPAC), according to a press release distributed by both organizations.

It should be recalled that before Trump announced plan to create his own social media platform, he had repeatedly criticized the huge platforms for ousting him despite it being used by more radical bodies across the globe. “We live in a world where the Taliban has a huge presence on Twitter, yet your favorite American President has been silenced. This is unacceptable,” Trump said in a written statement.

He further said “I am excited to send out my first TRUTH on TRUTH Social very soon. TMTG was founded with a mission to give a voice to all. I’m excited to soon begin sharing my thoughts on TRUTH Social and to fight back against Big Tech,”

The former president has maintained that the mission of his new platform is to create “a rival to the liberal media consortium and fight back against the Big Tech companies.”
